Stone Cracker at Marchmont House

The latest growing sculpture for Marchmont House in the Scottish Borders.

A large stone 35 tons was quarried locally and transported to Marchmont. The stone is approximately a 3m cube with an 85cm hole drilled through it. The stone was then lifted and let down over a 4.5m sapling which had been planted in the ground the previous year.  Eventually the tree will expand to fill the hole and at some point, as it keeps expanding it should split the stone. This might take more than 100 years.

Hutton Stone drilled the hole and Forsyth Cranes organised transporting and cranage of the stone.
